Travel Team Information

CEDAR RAPIDS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION (CRHA)

The CRHA travel hockey program is designed to compliment the house league program by allowing players to further develop their skills, improve their knowledge and understanding of the game, and nurture their desire, dedication and discipline to play the game of ice hockey at a more competitive level.

The CRHA has teams at the Mite, Squirt, PeeWee and Bantam levels, ranging in ages from 5 to 15, as well as a U-19 girls team.
The program is structured so each team will spend approximately 3 hours on ice each week divided between individual team practices and power skating/ADM clinics and possible off ice training.

The number of games and tournaments played by each travel team will vary depending upon the age level, level of play (AA, A, B or C) and the willingness of the coach and parents.  At the start of the season, parents meet to discuss the interest and commitment  In general, the season typically runs from October through March and consists of 25 to 50 games made-up of exhibition games, league games and tournaments.
Our teams typically play teams in surrounding area such as Des Moines, Quad Cities, Iowa City, Waterloo, Mason City and Dubuque as well as a few tournaments in nearby states.

The cost to play travel hockey varies by team and is specifically determined by each teams' number of practices, friendly games and tournaments.  The costs can be offset (sometimes substantially) by team and/or individual fund raising activities throughout the season. Payments are divided into three installments over the season to make it more affordable for families.

Sound fun?? It is!!! Ask any parent or player who has participated in the travel program.  What many do not know is that the costs can be greatly reduced by fundraising activities and each team determines their level of commitment.  Not only do the players come away with a greater level of knowledge and skill for the game of hockey, but they come away with some great friendships and fun stories that they will take with them for years to come!!
Mite players enjoy a little boy bonding in between games at a recent tournament.

Youth players help Coach Hults raise money for the goalie program during a 50/50 raffle at a RoughRider USHL game.
